United Way of Baroda (UWB) has consistently stood at the forefront of disaster relief efforts, extending critical support to affected regions across India. Our commitment is driven by a deep sense of responsibility to mitigate the impact of disasters through proactive preparedness, effective response, and community-centered rehabilitation. Aiming to protect lives, restore livelihoods, and promote recovery, we deliver timely assistance and empower communities to rebuild with resilience and hope.
Disaster Relief
Uttarakhand Flood Relief
In response to one of India’s most devastating natural disasters, where over 6,054 individuals lost lives, UWB contributed INR 21 Lakhs to support the State Government’s efforts. This fund aimed to safeguard those at risk and provide relief to affected families.
We extended our support towards the State Government and donated INR 21 Lakhs to safeguard our country patriots who were in danger and their lives were in serious question.
As of 16 July 2013, according to figures provided by the Government of Uttarakhand, more than 5,700 people were “presumed dead.”[3] This total included 934 local residents. The death toll was later placed at 6,054.
Jammu and Kashmir Flood Relief
With 2,600 villages affected and 390 villages completely submerged, the floods caused widespread devastation. UWB extended a helping hand with a donation of INR 5 Lakhs, providing vital support to families in dire need.
According to the Home Ministry of India, several thousand villages across the state had been hit and 390 villages had been completely submerged. In actual figures 2600 villages were reported to be affected in Jammu and Kashmir, out of which 390 villages in Kashmir were completely submerged. 1225 villages were partially affected and 1000 villages were affected in Jammu Division.
Many parts of Srinagar, including the Border Security Force (BSF) HQ in Sanant Nagar & Army cantonment in Badam Bagh, were inundated, and vital roads were submerged, by the floods.
We extended our helping hands towards the Government and donated INR 5 Lakhs for supporting the adversely affected families.
URI Martyrs
This attack was one of the deadliest attack on Indian Army reported by BBC where 19 soldiers died while 19-30 soldiers were badly injured.
United Way of Baroda donated INR 20 Lakhs to support these countrymen to gave up their lives while fighting for our nation.
Banaskantha & Patan Flood Relief
Declared disaster-affected areas under the Gujarat State Disaster Management Act, these districts experienced severe flooding. UWB provided INR 21 Lakhs in financial aid to support relief and recovery efforts in the region.
A week after torrential rains leading to flood wreaked havoc in north Gujarat, state revenue department has declared Banaskantha and Patan districts as ‘disaster-affected areas’. These districts were declared as flood-affected areas as per the provisions of ‘Gujarat State Disaster Management Act of 2003. The decision to declare these two districts, which were hit the most by the flood, as ‘disaster affected’.
Our support was extended towards these two adversely affected districts where we provided financial support up to 21 Lakhs.
Kerala Flood Relief
In the aftermath of the catastrophic floods, UWB provided INR 12 Lakhs in aid to assist the Kerala State Government. This contribution supported relief initiatives in 9 locations of Wayanad District, including:
- Cleaning and restoration of 29 wells (desilting, chlorination).
- WASH awareness programs benefiting 5,000 individuals.
- Income stability initiatives for affected families.
Kerala State Government received financial aids up to INR 1.2 Million to safeguard our countrymen from Kerala Floods. The funds was utilised for the following activities in 9 locations of Wayand District of Kerala.
- Cleaning of 24 wells (removing contaminated water, desilting and chlorination).
- Restoration of 5 damaged wells (including cleaning).
- WASH Awareness generation targeting 5000 individuals in gram panchayat.
- Income stability.
Pulwama Attack
Following the tragic attack that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF Jawans, UWB honored their bravery by donating INR 40 Lakhs to support their families. This gesture was a tribute to their ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
Our CRPF Jawans fought for the country while risking their lives. This attack was the deadliest attacks on Indian Army Forces to date where 40 CRPF brave hearts lost their lives.
United Way of Baroda donated INR 40 Lakhs to the families of these CRPF Jawans.
Vadodara Flood Relief
Heavy rains caused severe flooding in Vadodara, affecting thousands. UWB provided:
- Relief to 15,000 families, including food packets, clothes, and ration kits (15 kg each).
- Support for 100 underprivileged students from affected areas with Educational Kits.
- Assistance to 15 flood-affected areas for a week-long recovery.

- 5,000 packets of Masala Khichdi distributed
- 70 kg of Thepla distributed locally
- 1,000 ready-to-eat food packets sent to Bharuch Collector
- 1,900 bottles of clean drinking water distributed
- 1,000 ration kits distributed

Due to heavy rain, the city of Vadodara and its administrative districts were adversely affected by severe flooding. Nearly 50cm of rain fell on the city within 12 hours, with 424mm recorded in one 6 hours period. As a result, the nearby vishwamitri river rose to 1 meter below the danger line and the Ajwa dam overflowed, flooding the city. During this tenure, we stood strong for fellow city population and provided them with every possible way we could.
15000 Families received support in terms of clothes, food packets, mineral water supply, and ration kits (15 kg each) including oil, rice, flour, tea, chili powder, salt, turmeric, etc.
All 15 flood affected areas of Vadodara city were supported for 7 days. 100 underprivileged students from these 15 affected areas were supported for Educational Kit Aid.
