Environment & Climate Action
Environmental sustainability is one of the key pillars of United Way of Baroda’s development agenda. Recognising the growing challenges posed by climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and resource depletion, the organisation works towards creating resilient ecosystems and environmentally conscious communities through collaborative, long-term interventions. By partnering with corporate CSR stakeholders, government agencies, educational institutions, and local communities, United Way of Baroda integrates environmental conservation into every stage of community development, ensuring that economic progress goes hand in hand with ecological responsibility.
Through its Community Impact Centre (CIC), United Way of Baroda promotes environmental stewardship by empowering communities to actively participate in conservation and sustainable development. The Centre serves as a platform for implementing community-driven initiatives focused on afforestation, biodiversity restoration, urban greening, environmental education, water conservation, sustainable resource management, and community engagement. These programmes encourage citizens, volunteers, educational institutions, and local communities to take ownership of environmental protection, fostering a culture of sustainability while creating greener and healthier neighbourhoods.
With the support of its CSR partners, United Way of Baroda has implemented a comprehensive portfolio of environmental initiatives that promote afforestation, renewable energy, biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration, climate resilience, and sustainable infrastructure development. A landmark Miyawaki Dense Oxygen Park was established at Kaladarshan–Waghodia, Vadodara, in collaboration with Civica Resource Pvt. Ltd. and the Vadodara Municipal Corporation. Developed across 18,000 square feet, the park comprises 5,500 native trees representing 38 indigenous species, significantly enhancing biodiversity, improving air quality, strengthening groundwater recharge, and restoring the local ecosystem. Building upon this success, large-scale Miyawaki plantation drives were undertaken at Gayatrinagar, Halol, and Kharod, Ankleshwar, as part of Sun Pharma’s Employee Volunteering Programme. Together, these initiatives resulted in the plantation of over 32,500 native trees across 3,35,000 square feet, creating dense green ecosystems that contribute to carbon sequestration, ecological restoration, and long-term environmental sustainability.
United Way of Baroda has also strengthened green infrastructure by developing Eco Parks, Green Model Schools, and environmentally sustainable campuses that integrate native landscaping, biodiversity-friendly plantation, kitchen gardens, rooftop solar systems, solar-powered street lights, and renewable energy solutions. An Eco Park developed at ITI Tarsali in partnership with Styrenix transformed the campus through the plantation of 550 plants and over 1,600 hedges, complemented by solar lighting, seating infrastructure, and recreational spaces that provide a vibrant environment for learning and community engagement. Similar sustainability interventions across educational institutions have encouraged environmental awareness among students while promoting clean energy adoption and responsible resource management.
Complementing these efforts are initiatives focused on water conservation and environmental resilience through groundwater recharge measures, improved sewage treatment systems, installation of high-capacity overhead water storage infrastructure, and other resource management interventions that contribute to long-term ecological sustainability and public well-being. Community participation remains central to every initiative, with plantation drives, volunteer engagement programmes, environmental awareness campaigns, and collaborative conservation efforts encouraging individuals and institutions to become active partners in protecting natural resources.
