United Against Covid-19 Response

First phase of Interventions

The Coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic is one of the most prominent health issues faced globally. We commenced our response against this pandemic by donating 57 lakhs to the Prime Minister funds to contribute towards a good cause.

United Way of Baroda assured its safe and support towards communities’ resilience. As the immediate response to the program, UWB reached to the deprived communities and provided them 6500 hot packet meals but then taken into account of the state guidelines, we started providing family essentials to these communities. More than 300000 individuals were assisted to fight for the food security during this lockdown.

United Way Worldwide and Corporate Partners extended their support and united with us to intervene to fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

There was a need to focus on interventions working towards slowing the spread of the disease and providing support to the Government and trust hospitals to meet their medical requirement. Advanced Ventilators, Blood Cell Counters, Portable X-ray Machines, and Portable ECG Machines, Patient Multi-Para-Monitors and many more provided. Also to safeguard the frontline warriors, medical essentials such as PPE Kits, Face Shields, Sanitizer Bottles, Hygiene Kits, Hypochlorite Solution Bottles, Pulse Oximeters, etc. have been provided.

Apart from these interventions, we were fortunate to be able to facilitate vaccination camps for the citizens of Vadodara irrespective of the age groups and virtual events were held on various topics covering health issues along with entertainment for the citizens. Also, destitute students were facilitated with smart devices such as laptops, tablets and android phones to ease their online education.
Our COVID-19 interventions through the year have ensured that we adapt as a team to respond to the biggest crisis faced by our generation.

Second phase of Interventions

Our efforts continued to combat against COVID-19 menace. Our team strengthen their sleeves to reach to the maximum of our fellow citizens. This swift increase in the number of cases have resulted in running out of beds, oxygen cylinders and other medical equipment in the hospitals. Gujarat State Government Authorities have been urging people suffering from the virus to opt for home quarantine if their situation is not worse. The grounds of deaths are rapid decrease in oxygen level, sudden cardiac arrest or heart failure, brain stroke and multiple organ failures.

We braced up our support with our respective Corporate Partners and laid down a chain of medical safeguard for such various trusts and hospitals. Medical Equipment including Oxygen Concentrators, Defibrillators, ICU Beds, MPM Patient Monitors, Pulse Oximeters, Sterile Hand Gloves, Max Proton Plus Ventilators, Blood Cell Counter, Bed Mattress, Thermo Scientific Sorvall Refrigerated Centrifuge, Blood Analyser, Oxygen Tank and lines, Thermofischer Centrifuge, Ambulances, Haematology Analyser, ECG Machine, Pharmaceutical Refrigerators, Home Quarantine kits, etc. Vaccination drive was organised in Vadodara wherein both the vaccines i.e. Covaxins and Covishield was available for the citizens.

COVID-19 pandemic showcased its trains on middle-aged individuals, which resulted in losing their lives. Their death number represented that their families have lost the single and strong breadwinner for their family and is now questioning their survival. We extended our interventions towards such vulnerable families to somehow answer their medium of survival. Hence, we decided to cover one of the expenses which is their children’ school/tuition fees for two academic years. Further looking forward to the family crisis, such families were supported for ration kits and their other major expenses such as electricity bills, gas bills, rent for six months.

In addition, as per the quick survey conducted by UWB Team, it was found that in 93% of the cases fathers have lost their lives who were the single earning member for the family and as a result Mothers of such families are single parent looking for their children and other members. Such Mothers were even homemakers with weak educational background and job experience. Hence, as a part of extended support, a platform was created for them for skill development for vocational courses such as Tally & GST, Sewing courses and Beautician courses. Mothers have enrolled in these courses in both basics and advanced to train them and secure a job to help their families. They have successfully completed their courses and are placed in well-known organizations/companies. These Mothers were even provided with start-up kits to secure their livelihood.

We are still thriving to work for the betterment of the underprivileged through our various programs.
